This is the city of Avalon on the island of Catalina. It is ab out an hour ferry ride from Long Beach. We had a great weekend with perfect weather. The temperature is a cool 80, back home in Phoenix it is 107. . |

![]() Right off the boat my first picture is this 100 pound Black Sea Bass. The Kelp Bass is floating above the Black Bass. The Kelp Bass is about a 12 inches long. The big fish is about 5 or 6 feet long. There is another one off in the distance. |

These are my dive buddies. Dean has the red snorkel. Steve, the golf pro, just found a golf ball in the ocean. |

Catalina is surrounded by a kelp forest. This is the "root" of the kelp. It just covers the rock and holds the plant to the bottom. |

Here are some of the kelp plants "blowing" in the current. These stalks are 30 to 50 feet tall. |

This is a small Horn Shark. Look just in front of the dorsal fin and you can see a small horn. This guy is about 16 inches long. I gave him a nudge, hoping to get a more flattering pose. He didn't care and wouldn't move. |
