This is the world renowned Chateau Yaldara winery in South Australia. We
had the opportunity to tour the winery and see first hand how wine is made.
The picture below shows it all. These are oak casks holding port
wine. These casks have been here since the winery opened in 1924. There
was a terrific carving on the front of each barrel. The port in these casks
will sit here for about 10 years before it is ready to be bottled. Some
port can age longer than that..
I have been taking some grief from the rest of our tour group about all
the technology I brought along on this trip: my camera and the computer I
wrote this web page with. This moment struck me funny when two video
cameras popped out for the first time in the winery. That is Collin
from England in the middle and Jhan on the right. We were looking at
more wooden barrels, this time of Shiraz red wine. Below is my photo
of the mountain of wine.
When we finished the tour, we made the compulsory stop at the wine-tasting
room. Amy is pictured here enjoying a bit of the 10 year old port. You
might notice the camera man had been enjoying the wine tasting too. I
believe we tried all but 2 of the wines they offered, including the sparkling
wine through the port. The port is the stronger in taste so we sampled that
last. It is at this point, I must remind you all, that we were all
passengers on a bus tour and the driver was good; therefore, we sampled without
reservation. This was a good stop.
