Yellow River Cruise

The first two pictures are from the Yellow River in the Kakadu National Forest.  We got up at 5am today and were on the boat cruise before the sunrise.  The picture I have of the sunrise does not come close to the brilliant yellows, oranges, reds, blues, and purples.  I did shoot 2 rolls of film with my big film camera so check back later for more exciting photos.  The bird is an Intermediate Egret.  The wildlife on this cruise was amazing; the birds were right on the water's edge and mostly hung around so we could take pictures.  They didn't even seem to mind.

Yep, this was our second flat tire.  Our driver, Tom - in the orange shirt, was just destroying his record of 10 years without a flat.  He and Colin changed this tire in the record time of 20 minutes.  This time we just had to stop on the side of the road.  This tire blew only 10k from the beautiful Ubir Reserve.

Ubir is a gorgeous site full of Aboriginal artwork and great views.  The green plain is Nabab Plain.  I have a wonderful 360 degree panoramic from here that I will post it on the panoramic page later.  I also have another roll of film from here.  Nina and I are both on top of the hill standing as close as we can to the spot where Crocodile Dundee filmed a scene frim the first Crocodile Dundee movie.  The pointy rock was also on the top of the hill and I thought it was just really neat.  It reminded me of the rock Kirk fought the Gorn on.  Wow, I think of weird stuff.

This is a neat tree called Pandanus Spirilis tree.  It was really neat because the leaves spiraled up as they grew.  This tree is a living remnant of the dinosaur age.  And here is a big group picture.  We picked up a bunch of people in Ayers Rock and they rode with us to Darwin.  This was our opportunity to take a picture with everybody.  There are 50 seats on the coach and we filled them all.  Below is a cathedral termite mound.  The termites built these mounds all over the countryside.  Most of the mounds were only 2 to 4 feet high.  This one is 22 feet high and there is Sam, Jeff, and Amy.
